Qdump

Efficient, time-saving database backups.

QDUMP is a purpose-built utility that provides the ADABAS DBA with the ability to perform true incremental backups and restores.

Some benefits associated with such an approach include:

QDUMP reduces backup time substantially (often by up to 90%!), because it only backs up those database blocks that have been modified since the last full backup. This is particularly valuable for online backups of critical databases during the day.

Smaller outputs - Again, given the incremental approach described above, QDUMP's output space requirements are usually extremely low in comparison with full backups.

Unattended Backups - These become a real possibility (even for large databases) due to QDUMP's greatly reduced output space - backups can be written to disk overnight and copied to tape or cartridge the next day.

Faster Restores - QDUMP offers a strategy to get critical databases online faster. Running QDUMP's incremental backups during the production day slashes restore times.

Efficient machine usage - QDUMP runs as a front-end to ADAIOR, and consequently is automatically aware of every database block update. The QDUMP front-end records each update in a ECSA bitmap (the space requirements of which are very low), and it consumes less than 0.5% of the CPU used by the calling program.

Security and Integrity - QDUMP's powerful data safeguards ensure that QDUMP backups can always recreate a true copy of your database.

In summary, QDUMP provides the DBA with superior speed, flexibility and efficiency - without sacrificing control or data integrity.
