NIMSPOOL is a powerful, easy to use, print spooling application that sits between VTAM and your applications.

NIMSPOOL uses ADABAS as the basic spool file organization, and a direct VTAM interface as the printer communications mechanism.

NIMSPOOLcan be used to print output from both online (NIM) and batch environments, and from both NATURAL and non-NATURAL applications.

NIMSPOOL consists of:

An applications interface which calls several Assembler modules to route reports and parameters to JES to be picked up by the user-writer.
A JES User-Writer to collect output from JES spool, for compression and storage on the ADABAS spool.
The ADABAS spool contains reports and various control information for reports and printers.
The Online Control Facility is a NATURAL application that is used to maintain control information and control reports on the ADABAS spool.
A VTAM Application for controlling printer and printers from one address space.

The major features of NIMSPOOL are:

Ease of implementation - all that is required is an ADABAS database without logging, a VTAM defined application, and a sysout class from which NIMSPOOLcan pick up reports from JES.
Flexibility - NIMSPOOL is simply an ADABAS-NATURAL application with some specialized VTAM application software. Almost all control logic is implemented using ADABAS-NATURAL.
Efficiency - the low-level, high usage routines in NIMSPOOL have been carefully coded in Assembler language for efficiency.

System requirements:

IBM or compatible environ;
OSIV/F4 MSP/AE or MVS/XA;
NATURAL V1.2 SM06 or above and ADABAS V4.1.1;
VTAM-G or ACF-VTAM;
JES2.
