Powerful, flexible file reorganization

ADAREORG enables the physical structure of an ADABAS database to be changed with minimal effort, risk and resource usage.

ADAREORG empowers the DBA to quickly and easily respond to database restructuring demands.

ADAREORG makes it easy to change file structures. You can:

  • Insert or delete fields anywhere in a file, even in a PE;
  • create subsets of existing files based on comparisons of specified fields;
  • convert data formats, e.g. field type conversions, changes in length, or to move fields into or out of periodic groups;
  • reorder fields within a record;
  • manipulate data below field level;
  • join two files, which may be compressed or decompressed.

ADAREORG advantages:

Convenience:

Decompression and compression is performed on a record-by-record basis in a single step, eliminating the need to have large amounts of disk space for decompressed files.

Efficiency:

1. DBA effort is substantially reduced to achieve a successful reorganization;
2. Processing time is reduced compared with on-off NATURAL programs (due to use of efficient Assembler code and a single-pass approach).

Variety of Input:

ADAREORG accepts one or two data source files as input - they can be compressed or decompressed ADABAS files, data, or a mixture thereof.

Ease of Use:

ADAREORG puts unparalleled control and flexibility in the hands of the DBA, making difficult (or even impossible) data-reformatting chores simple and efficient.
